At Davis Ranch, we primarily utilize artificial insemination, which enables us to access genetics from anywhere in the world. We select A. I. bulls that excel in calving ease, weaning weight, yearling weight and carcass quality EPD's.
Listed below are the sires that we used in 2005 that are the sires of our 2006 calf crop now on test at Canoochee Forage Bull Development Center and the sires we used in the 2006 breeding season that will produce our 2007 calf crop. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to give us a call.

2005 Herd Sires

Black Irish Kansas - ASA# 1425514
Black Irish Kansas #1 Simmental sire in 1997 and #2 sire in 1998, Black Irish is now deceased, but his impact on the breed will be ongoing for years. With the release of the new Stayability (Stay) and All Purpose Index (API), Black Irish Kansas has set the standard for other Simmental bulls to follow. His Stay EPD of +29 and API of 129.0 are the highest in the breed. He is homozygous polled and homozygous black.

We used Black Irish Kansas on some of our RWF cows to produce BWF calves with performance and stayability. We will have sons for sale out of him in 2007 at the Canoochee Forage Bull Development Center Sale.

GW Lucky Dice 187H - ASA# 2002092
Lucky Dice was the #2 Simmental sire for registrations in 2005. His EPDs are unmatched by any other sire, when you consider the combination of calving ease and performance all in one package. He ranked in the top 25% of the breed for nine EPD traits in the Spring 2006 Simmental Sire Summary.
He is homozygous polled and homozygous black.

We used Lucky Dice on our black cows to produce calves with growth, performance and phenotype all rolled up into one package. Lucky Dice daughters are the cream of the crop in grass based environments.

PCS DRG Heartbreaker 35L - ASA# 2147883
Heartbreaker is a total performance sire. He is sired by GW Lucky Break 147G and out of a super performance oriented LRS Preferred Stock daughter owned by Powder Creek Simmentals. Heartbreaker sired the high indexing Simmental bull out of 54 contemporaries in the 2005/2006 Tifton Bull Evaluation Center. This bull was also the second high indexing bull of all breeds our of 187 contemporaries.

We had the opportunity to use Heartbreaker in 2004 natural service and we have retained several of his daughters in the herd. We have an excellent herd sire prospect sired by Heartbreaker that we will be entering into the Tifton Bull Evaluation Program or the Optimum Beef Bull program this Fall.

SRS J914 Preferred Beef - ASA# 2050715
Preferred Beef was the #1 Simmental sire for registrations in 2005. He is now deceased with very limited semen availability. He excels for ease of calving, rapid early growth, great phenotype and good maternal values. He will impact the breed for years to come because so many of his daughters will remain in production for years to come.

TNT On Target J94 - ASA# 2048325
Homozygous Polled & Homozygous Black, TNT On Target is becoming known as the female maker in the Simmental breed. His daughters are widely known for having excellent udders and an abundance of milk.

2006 Herd Sires

Black Irish Kansas - ASA# 1425514
Black Irish Kansas #1 Simmental sire in 1997 and #2 sire in 1998, Black Irish is now deceased, but his impact on the breed will be ongoing for years. With the release of the new Stayability (Stay) and All Purpose Index (API), Black Irish Kansas has set the standard for other Simmental bulls to follow. His Stay EPD of +29 and API of 129.0 are the highest in the breed. He is homozygous polled and homozygous black.

We used Black Irish Kansas on all of our black replacement heifers this year due to his excellent calving ease, performance and stayability.

GCF First Dream P13 - ASA# 2244836
GCF First Dream is a heterozygous black and homozgous polled powerhouse. He is sired by CNS Dream On and posted a 950 lb. 205 day adjusted weight. We bred several cows to him this year and are anxiously awaiting the resulting calves.

SAV 8180 Traveler 004 - AAA# 13512009
Traveler 004 was bred to the bulk of our black Simmental cows to produce high quality SimAngus composites. He is the all time leading semen seller for the Genex Cooperative, having grossed over $1.5 million in semen sales in 2005. We like him for his great body depth and extreme capacity. He has an excellent disposition that he passes along to his offspring.

Look for SimAngus calves from "004" at the Canoochee Forage Bull Development Center Sale in 2008. We are excited about using this excellent Black Angus sire in our herd and can't wait for his first calves to hit the ground.

Bieber Make Mimi 7249 - ARA# 663262
"Make Mimi" is the top Red Angus sire available from the Accelerated Genetics Bull Stud. We used him to breed our PB Simmental cows that carry the diluter gene and those that are a little too large in frame. "Make Mimi" is a moderate framed PB Red Angus bull with lots of volume and capacity. He is an excellent calving ease sire that also has some growth punch. He has excellent marbling and he ranks in the top 15% in all carcass traits in the Red Angus breed.

Look for red SimAngus sons of "Make Mimi" at the Canoochee Forage Bull Development Center Sale in 2008.

NRF Desperado 101 - ASA# 2268878
We used "Desperado" in our herd in 2005 and again in 2006 for clean up service behind our A.I. breeding program. "Desperado" is sired by the ABS sire "WHF Desperado 212G" and out of a top daughter of LRS Preferred Stock 370C.

We leased the Spring pasture rights in 2005 and 2006 from his owners, the D.C. Durrence Farm of Glennville, GA. "Desperado" was purchased at the very first Canoochee "Performance On Forage" sale and was in his own right a top gaining bull on the forage evaluation program.

A son of Desperado's full ET brother was the high indexing bull of all breeds at the 2004/2005 Canoochee program.
